BL Vessels

2017

Bonded Leather Vessels are a part of a larger series - Bonded Leather Collection, which investigates the recycling possibilities of various types of leather waste.
The extensive research of traditionally used processes, such as cuir bouilli, has led the design team to the discovery of some new behaviors of the material. When exposed to specific moisture, heat and pressure, leather creates natural bonds that not only transform the material, but also give it properties of other materials, like added strength and elasticity.

Leather used for making the vessels was mainly a thin leather scrap originally used for making garments, gloves, and bags. Besides the material itself, specially developed production methods played an important role in the creation of visual identity of the finished pieces.

Materials:  Ostrich leather waste
